Ngwanu Express ("we", "us") runs a motorbike delivery service in Lagos, Nigeria, plus a rider recruitment programme. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect through our customer and rider apps, why we collect it, and how it's kept safe.
1. Information we collect
When you create an account
Your name, phone number, and a password. Your password is never stored as typed — it's run through a one-way scrambling function (PBKDF2) before it ever touches our database, so even we can't see it.
If you book a delivery
The pickup and drop-off addresses (plus their map coordinates if you pick a suggested address or use "Use my current location"), the item type, and the estimated fare — tied to your account so you can see your booking history and live status.
If you apply to ride with us
Your date of birth, home address, NIN, the area you'll cover, and your bike details. We also collect, as photos or PDFs: your NIN slip, your driver's licence or rider's card, a selfie, and — if you own a bike — your bike papers.
For each of your two guarantors: their name, phone, home address, relationship to you, NIN, and a photo of their NIN.
We never ask for your bank details or card numbers anywhere in the app — deliveries are paid cash, transfer or POS directly to your rider.
2. Why we collect it
- Accounts — so you can log in securely, see your booking or application history, and track a delivery live.
- Rider identity documents — to verify who you are, confirm your NIN and licence, match your face to your ID, and check your guarantors before you're allowed to carry customers' packages.
- Guarantor details — we call both guarantors to confirm they know you and agree to stand for you, as part of protecting customers from fraud or theft.
Giving false information or an altered/forged document ends an application immediately and may be reported to the police.
3. Where your information is stored
Your account and delivery data live in our own private database (Cloudflare D1), not a shared spreadsheet. Sensitive fields — your NIN, date of birth, home address, and your guarantors' NIN and address — are individually encrypted at rest, so a copy of the raw database alone reveals none of them; only our application, using a separate secret key, can read them back. A small number of outside services still help the app work, and each only receives the minimum it needs:

4. How long we keep it
We keep booking and rider-application records for as long as reasonably needed for dispatch, dispute resolution, and (for riders) fraud and safety checks — and to meet any legal record-keeping obligation. If your rider application isn't approved, or you ask us to, we'll delete your documents on request (see below).
5. Your rights
- Ask what information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
- Ask us to delete your information — including uploaded ID documents — where we're not required to keep it.
- Withdraw a rider application at any time before onboarding.

6. Keeping it safe
Uploaded documents (NIN, licence, selfie, bike papers, guarantor IDs) are stored privately and are only ever visible to you and to our verification team reviewing your application — never public, never indexed. Sensitive personal fields are encrypted at rest as described above. We don't sell, rent, or use your information for advertising.
7. Age
Our rider programme is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
If how we handle information changes, we'll update this page and change the date at the top.
